The National Deaf Freedom Association (NDFA) is a non-profit 501(c)(4) social welfare organization providing access to legislators at Federal, State, City/County levels.

NDFA envision for all Deaf people in the United States of America where there is humanity, social justice, understanding the economic needs of the community, and encourage development consistent with those needs.

Programs & Services

Deaf Advocacy Relations Program

  • Designs and develop advocacy training materials
  • Provides advocacy workshop to Deaf voting citizens and members
  • Provides advocacy workshop to parents, teachers, executives, legislators
  • Charters a Civil Rights Relations Program
  • Contacts civil rights organizations and survey the impact and resolutions on Deaf related rights

Public Relations

The Public Relations or PR is a practice of maintaining and shaping the image of an individual or an organization to the public in such a way that a favorable point of view is developed for the concerned entity.

Educational Relations

School Community Relations Program – External Communication Affairs

  • Provide consulting services to the board of education officers regarding Deaf students' rights
  • Address educational interpreting service issues and advocacy issues to parents, school administrators and teachers

Employment Relations

Corporate Relations Program – External Communication Affairs

  • Conduct surveys of corporations and human resources regarding Deaf employment rights
  • Contact human resources department at Fortune 500 corporations to assess and train recruiters
  • Explore employment hiring processes including interviewing, screening, hiring, and training
  • Arrange and deliver Deaf employment workshops

Electoral – Federal & State

  • Conduct election-related engagement activities including candidate questionnaires and debates
  • Provide resources and support to ensure full communication access for Deaf taxpaying citizens
  • Provide guidance and references to build well informed voters and leaders
  • Consult election boards to ensure accessibility and support for Deaf voters

Grassroots Lobbying

  • Provide resources and support for better lobbying efforts
  • Develop grassroots leaders and activists within legal approaches
  • Build a coalition with supportive nonprofit organizations

Internal Affairs Director

Responsibilities:

  • Performs under direction of the Board, neutral of all ties within the organization
  • Establishes task force set forth by Executive Team to investigate and make recommendations
  • Writes policies governing all positions, appointments, committees, and responsibilities
  • Investigates all internal matters to assure accountability, credibility, ethics and integrity

Government Relations

  • Identify and collaborate with legislators in support of healthy and equitable Deaf politics
  • Provide consultations to government offices on any issues affecting Deaf citizens and members

NDFA Resource Center

Director: Daisy Bravo (Intern)

The purpose of the National Deaf Freedom Association Resource Center (NRC), NDFA Research Team (NRT) is to provide support and collect data on the Deaf. This ensures that the Deaf have equal access in Employment, political, social, educational and legal avenues.

Services

  • We collaborate with advocacy organizations on legislations and policies.
  • We provide workshops at events to promote the voting rights.
  • We work with government agencies as US Census, ACS, FCC and state agencies.
  • We work with education facilities for training to students on political establishments as debates, voting registrations and courses.
  • We have public relations with Deaf communities, social medias and social events.
  • We have employment relations to maintain legal rights and implementation policies.
  • We provide resources and voters endorsements of public office candidates.
  • We register persons who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Late-deafened as members of our organization.
  • We provide training people who are interested in lobbying for Deaf issues at federal, state and local legislation branches.
  • We pool the lobbyists to work with activists and general public.
  • We collect data for legislators and organizations.
  • We provide training for movements, voters and public offices.
  • We provide supports and resources to groups of activists in rallies and events. We use our 501(c)(4) status to exempt taxes on individuals and funds.

Membership: Free for registered voters, $1 for non-voters
